Bambu Lab A1 mini: the "blob of death"

This A1 mini came in with one of the worst failures a 3D printer can have: a "blob of death." Melted filament had leaked around the hotend and kept building up until it swallowed the whole hotend assembly, its wiring and the front cover in a solid lump of plastic.

What we did

  1. Took the toolhead apart and carefully removed the blob without damaging the wiring and connectors around it.
  2. Inspected everything: the toolhead control board, connectors and cooling fan.
  3. Replaced the damaged parts with genuine Bambu Lab (OEM) parts, and showed the customer the factory part boxes so they knew exactly what went into their printer.
  4. Reassembled and test printed until it laid down a clean first layer and finished a test Benchy.

The result: back to printing like new. No job is too big. If your printer looks like the first photo, there's a good chance it can be saved.
